Section 01

What is Scan / Print Barcode?

1 minute

Every physical container of stock in Brytebuild has a barcode — a unique UUID that acts as its licence plate. Scanning it tells you instantly what's inside, where it is, and its full history. Creating a new barcode generates a printable label you can stick directly on a bin, shelf, pallet or product.

  • Scan a barcode — use your phone camera, a handheld scanner, or type the code manually to look up any container
  • Print a barcode — generate a new barcode for a product item (Single Item) or a storage container/location (Storage)
  • Barcode list — browse all barcode containers across all warehouses with full filtering, print and Excel export
  • Move Contents — transfer stock from one barcode container to another without leaving the page
  • Three container types: Product, Location and Storage — each has different fields and available actions
  • Works on any phone or device — no specialist hardware needed for camera scanning
One comprehensive page — eight sections

Scan / Print Barcode covers several distinct workflows — scanning, printing, barcode details (with three container-type variants) and moving items. Use the section chips above to jump to any workflow. The Move Location workflow is only accessible from within a Product barcode record.

Section 02

The three container types

2 minutes

Every barcode is assigned one of three container types. The type determines what data the barcode holds, how it behaves in the warehouse, and which actions are available on its detail page. A coloured badge in the top-right of the detail page shows which type you are looking at.

⊕ Product

Holds a specific product (item or assembly) with a quantity, grade and tracking preference. The most common type — used for bins, pallets and totes of inventory.

Actions available:
Adjust Stock · Move Location · Print Barcode · Allocations tab · History tab (Stock Takes + Adjustments)

⊕ Location

Marks a specific position in the warehouse — a shelf row/column. Created via Create Barcode → Storage, then placed on the warehouse map. Can contain multiple product containers.

Actions available:
Print Barcode only. No stock adjustment or allocation tabs.

⊕ Storage

A named storage container or area (e.g. "Shelf A3", "Cold Store 1"). Similar to Location but used for movable containers or named zones rather than fixed warehouse positions.

Actions available:
Print Barcode only. Same UI as Location — General tab with Container Data table.

The Scan Barcode tab lets you look up any container instantly. Choose your input method: use the device camera, a dedicated scanner, or type the barcode UUID manually. On a successful scan the system opens the Barcode Details page for that container.

Barcode detail record

4 minutes

Click View Details on any list row, or scan a barcode, to open its detail record. The page shows different content and actions depending on the container type. A PRODUCT, LOCATION or STORAGE badge in the top-right corner shows which type you are looking at.

Product barcode — three tabs (General · History · Allocations)

Product barcodes have the richest detail page. Three tabs surface different information: General shows identity, the QR label, genealogy and the container data table. History shows stock takes and manual adjustments. Allocations shows the stock summary and any active soft holds.

Selecting a destination — Select Warehouse Element

Clicking Select Warehouse Element opens a modal showing a visual map of your warehouse. Choose a warehouse from the dropdown (e.g. Main warehouse), then click a shelf or zone on the floor plan. The barcode ID, row, column, type and warehouse of the selected element populate the right panel. Once selected, click Move Items to confirm.

Move Location is only available on Product barcodes

Location and Storage barcodes do not have a Move Location button. Their physical position is managed through the Warehouse Designer. Only Product barcode containers can be moved between locations using the Move Items workflow.

Section 08

Move Contents — page-level transfer

2 minutes

The Move Contents button in the page header opens a full-page overlay that lets you transfer contents from one barcode to another without opening any individual barcode record. The workflow is: (1) scan the destination barcode (where stock is going) → (2) click Scan Source Barcode to add the container(s) to move from → (3) click Move Contents to transfer.
