Inspection plans — create, edit & delete

How to create, edit and delete inspection plans in Brytebuild — set up QC checklists per product that trigger automatically on receipt, WO completion or despatch.

1 min read Managers, Admins Updated August 2026

Inspection plans are managed on the individual product — not from the Quality module. You need to open the product you want to configure, then switch to its QC tab.

One product, multiple plans

The same product can have any number of inspection plans — one for incoming goods, one for works order completion, one for despatch, and so on. Each plan is independent with its own checklist, trigger and settings.

Trigger options

Trigger When the inspection is queued
Purchase Order ReceiptWhen a purchase order delivery containing this product is received and marked Delivered. Use for incoming goods / receiving inspections.
Works Order CompletionWhen a works order for this product is completed. Use for final assembly checks, end-of-line QC or in-process checks at completion.
Delivery Order DespatchWhen a delivery order containing this product is despatched. Use for pre-shipment or outgoing quality checks.
Stock TakeWhen a stock take is run that includes this product. Use for periodic count and condition checks.

Inspection type options

Type What it means
— (default by trigger)Brytebuild sets the inspection type automatically based on the trigger — Purchase Order Receipt → Incoming, Works Order Completion → Final, Despatch → Final. Recommended for most plans.
Incoming / ReceivingAn inspection carried out when goods arrive. Overrides the default for a PO Receipt trigger if you want to be explicit.
In-ProcessA quality check carried out mid-production, before the works order is complete.
FinalAn end-of-production or end-of-process inspection. The completed record appears in the Inspection Log as "Final".
First Article InspectionA rigorous first-off check for a new or modified part, used to verify the manufacturing process before full production begins.
PPAPProduction Part Approval Process — a formal submission check typically required by automotive and aerospace customers.
Ad-hocAn unscheduled, one-off inspection type with no associated trigger classification.

Criterion type options

Type When to use it What the inspector records
Pass / FailBinary checks where the item either passes or fails — e.g. "No burrs present", "Correct label applied". The most common type.A Pass or Fail selection.
MeasurementChecks that require a numeric value against a specification — e.g. "M8 shank diameter 7.85–8.00 mm", "Torque 44–46 Nm".A measured numeric value. Brytebuild automatically evaluates pass/fail against the spec range.
TextFree-text evidence — e.g. "Enter batch certificate number", "Record serial number from label".A freeform text entry.

Section 06

Editing an inspection plan

1 minute

Click Edit on any plan card. The same form used to create the plan opens, pre-filled with all current settings and criteria. Make your changes and click Save Plan.

What's the same as Create? What's different when editing?
All fields are identical — Name, Trigger, Inspection Type, Duration, Active, Restrict to Groups, and the full Checklist Criteria section. The form layout and controls are exactly the same. The form header shows "EDIT PLAN" instead of "NEW PLAN". The footer button reads "Save Plan" instead of "Create Plan". The plan version increments by 1 when you save — existing completed inspections retain their original version number in the log.
Version increments on save

Each time you save changes to an existing plan, the version number increases (v1 → v2 → v3…). Inspections already completed against v1 remain recorded as v1 in the Inspection Log — they are not affected by the update. Future inspections will use the new version.

Section 07

Deleting an inspection plan

1 minute

Click Delete on a plan card. A confirmation prompt appears before anything is removed.

Delete "Incoming Goods — M8 Hex Bolts"?

This will permanently remove this inspection plan. Existing completed inspections in the Inspection Log are not affected. This action cannot be undone.

Cancel Delete plan
Prefer deactivating over deleting

If you want to temporarily stop a plan from triggering without losing its configuration, toggle the Active switch off instead of deleting. Deactivated plans are hidden from the Awaiting QC queue but can be re-enabled at any time.
