Section 01

What is CAPA?

2 minutes

CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) in Brytebuild is the ISO 10.2 system for formally addressing nonconformances. Every NCR can have one or more CAPA actions raised against it. Actions follow a fixed lifecycle and are only closed once the effectiveness of the action has been verified — at which point the record is locked.

  • Corrective actions address the root cause of an existing nonconformance — eliminating the defect and preventing recurrence
  • Preventive actions eliminate a potential nonconformance before it occurs — proactive risk reduction
  • Both types follow the same lifecycle: Open → In progress → Verifying → Closed
  • An action can only be closed by recording an effectiveness check — confirming no recurrence of the defect
  • Once closed, the record is locked — it cannot be edited or deleted
  • Preventive actions can also be raised automatically when an inspection raises an NCR
Auto-raised CAPAs

When an inspection raises an NCR, Brytebuild can automatically create a preventive action linked to that NCR. You'll see these in the list with a description like "Preventive action for NCR-2026-0008: Auto-raised from inspection…"

Section 05

Workflow & closing an action

3 minutes

The Workflow section on each action record lets you advance the status through the lifecycle and ultimately close the action. Closing requires an effectiveness check — a record that the action worked and the nonconformance has not recurred.

Workflow

Advance the status or verify effectiveness to close the action

Move the action through its lifecycle by advancing the status. When you can confirm the action was effective — no recurrence of the nonconformance — record the effectiveness check and click Verify & close to lock the record.
In progress
e.g. 3 months, zero recurrence on the same defect
Verify & close
Control What it does
Advance StatusMoves the action to the next lifecycle stage — Open → In progress → Verifying. Use this as you work through the corrective steps.
Verify EffectivenessFree-text field for recording evidence that the action worked — e.g. "3 months without recurrence of M8 bolt dimensional rejection at goods-in." Required to close.
Verify & closeSaves the effectiveness note, sets status to Closed, and locks the record. This action is irreversible.
Closing is permanent

Once Verify & close is clicked the record is locked. The description, type, NCR link and effectiveness note cannot be changed. If you closed an action in error, raise a new action against the same NCR.

Section 06

Closed and locked actions

2 minutes

A closed action shows a distinct locked view. The record is read-only — no Edit Action or Delete buttons appear in the footer — and a green banner confirms the locked state. The effectiveness verification text is shown in a highlighted panel.
