Complete a work order
Guide to the 3-step submission wizard, QC inspection modal and Stock Take variance recording.
Section 01
How to finish a work order
1 minute
Before completing a work order, it must be In Progress. If the status is still Not Started, click Start on the work order details page first.
Once the job is In Progress and the work is done, click the Finish button on the Work Order Details page. This navigates to the Submit Work Order wizard — a 3-step page separate from the details view.
Standard work orders
Stock Take work orders
The Change Status button on the submit wizard lets you manually override the work order status (e.g. mark as Cancelled) without going through the completion flow. Next Step / Submit Works Order is the correct button to progress through normal completion.
Section 02
Step 1 — Review Order
3 minutes
Step 1 gives you a final view of the work order before committing to completion. It has three panels — Schedule Timeline, Order Details and the Items table — so you can verify everything is correct before proceeding.
Schedule Timeline
The calendar highlights the work order's active date range in blue. Below the calendar, the exact Start and End date and time are shown with green date chips. This lets you verify the job ran within the expected window.
Order Details
A summary panel showing the current Status, Type, Warehouse and the internal UUID of this work order. Cross-check these before submitting — if any field looks wrong, click Back and edit the work order first.
Items / Assemblies & Guides table
This is the critical step — you must enter how many of each item were actually produced before you can proceed.
| Column | What to do |
|---|---|
| Product ID | Your internal product reference. Read-only. |
| Item Name | Product name. Click View to open the product record. |
| Description | Product description. Read-only. |
| Type | Item or Assembly. Read-only. |
| Expected Quantity | The quantity planned for this job — set at creation. Read-only. |
| Created Quantity ★ | Required. Enter how many units were actually produced. Must be greater than 0 to proceed — the field shows "Created quantity required" in red if left empty. This is the quantity added to inventory when the order completes. |
| Unit | Unit of measure. Editable via dropdown. |
| Track Stock | Checkbox to enable lot/serial number tracking for this completion. Tick if you need to record which batch or serial numbers were produced. |
| QC | Shows a QC badge if this product has an inspection plan. If shown, a QC modal will appear after Step 3 — the stock will be quarantined until the inspection is submitted. |
| View | Opens the product record in a new context. |
You cannot proceed to Step 2 until every item in the table has a Created Quantity greater than zero. If any item shows the red "Created quantity required" error, fill it in before clicking Next Step.
Section 03
Step 2 — Submit Items
2 minutes
Step 2 confirms that the picking list has been fulfilled — all items have been physically pulled from the warehouse before the job is closed.
Picking warning
If the amber picking warning banner appears, it means the picking list has not been fully fulfilled yet — the Picked Quantity is less than the Required Quantity for one or more items. Click the banner to open the picking list and action it before submitting.
Yes — the warning is informational, not a blocker. You can click Submit Works Order even if picking is incomplete. The job will still close, but only do this if the unpicked items are genuinely not needed or were sourced outside Brytebuild.
Submit Items table
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| S-No | Row number. |
| Item Name | Product name. |
| Description | Product description. |
| Type | Item or Assembly. |
| Required Quantity | How many units this job was planned to use — set at creation. |
| Picked Quantity | How many have actually been picked from the warehouse. If less than Required, the picking warning banner shows. |
| Unit | Unit of measure. |
| View | Opens the pick detail for this item — useful to see which bin locations were used. |
Section 04
Step 3 — Complete
1 minute
Clicking Submit Works Order in Step 2 triggers the final completion. Depending on the products involved, one of two things happens:
- No QC inspection plan — the work order is immediately marked Completed, the Created Quantity is added to inventory, and reserved stock is deducted. You're returned to the Works Order list.
- QC inspection plan exists — the Complete QC Now modal appears. The created stock is held in quarantine until you submit the inspection. See Section 05 for the full QC flow.
The work order status changes to Completed. Stock levels are updated in the selected warehouse. The order is now read-only but remains visible in history for reporting and traceability.
Section 05
QC inspection modal
4 minutes
When a completed product has an active inspection plan, Brytebuild automatically quarantines the produced stock and shows the Complete QC Now modal. The stock cannot be moved or used until the inspection is submitted.

QC modal field reference
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Qty Passed | How many units passed inspection. Must be a positive number. The pass percentage bar updates live as you type. |
| Qty Rejected | How many units failed or were rejected. Qty Passed + Qty Rejected should equal the Created Quantity from Step 1. |
| Pass % bar | Visual indicator — green when all units pass, turns red as rejects are entered. |
| Disposition | What to do with rejected units: Quarantine (hold for review), Scrap (write off), Rework (send back), Accept as-is (release despite failing). |
| Started / Finished | When the inspection took place. Used for audit trails and QC reporting. |
| Activity | The type of inspection activity — defaults to "Inspection". May include other options depending on your Quality configuration. |
| Notes | Free-text inspector notes — e.g. observations about why units were rejected. |
| Checklist Criteria | The specific measurements or checks required by the inspection plan. Enter the recorded value for each criterion. Must Pass criteria will automatically fail the inspection if the recorded value is outside the specification range. |
QC modal actions
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Skip — inspect later | Closes the modal without submitting. The work order is marked Completed but produced stock remains quarantined. You can complete the inspection later from the Quality dashboard. |
| ← Back | Returns to the inspection form without saving changes. |
| Save progress | Saves your entries as a draft without releasing stock. The draft is restored if you close and reopen the modal. |
| Submit & release stock | Submits the inspection results. Passed units are released from quarantine and added to available stock. Rejected units follow the Disposition setting. Stock levels update immediately. |
Clicking "Skip — inspect later" means the produced units cannot be picked, sold or used in other work orders. If your next job depends on this stock, complete the QC inspection immediately rather than skipping it.
Section 06
Completing a Stock Take
3 minutes
Complete Stock Take and Real-Time Stock Take work orders use a different submission interface. Instead of entering production quantities, you record how many of each product you physically counted in the warehouse. The system compares your counts against the expected quantities and records any variances.
Stock Take items table columns
| Column | What to do |
|---|---|
| Product ID | Your internal product reference. |
| Product Name | Product name as set in inventory. |
| Total Expected Quantity | What Brytebuild's inventory records show for this product in the selected warehouse. Read-only. |
| Total Counted Quantity | What you physically counted. Enter this value for every product in the warehouse. The variance is calculated by comparing this against Expected Quantity. |
| Unit | Unit of measure. |
| Counted Stock | Breakdown of counted stock by barcode/container. Click to expand and see individual barcode-level counts. |
Linked Barcodes & Variance modal
When you expand a product row in the Stock Take items table, a Linked Barcodes modal shows the variance per barcode container — useful for identifying exactly which specific stock unit has a discrepancy.

Variance
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| S-No | Row number. Click to expand/collapse the barcode sub-table for that product. |
| Product ID | Your internal product reference. |
| Product Name | Product name. |
| Product Type | Item or Assembly badge. |
| Total Stock | The variance between expected and counted. ▼ Red = counted fewer than expected (stock missing). ▲ Green = counted more than expected (surplus found). 0 = exact match. |
| Product Unit | Unit of measure with base unit indicator. |
Expanding a product row shows the barcode-level sub-table with Barcode ID, Barcode Type, Row, Column (warehouse location), Quantity, Grade and Counted Quantity. Enter the Counted Quantity for each individual barcode container found in the warehouse.
The Bulk Submit button at the bottom of the Linked Barcodes modal applies all your counted quantities at once. After bulk submitting, click Submit Works Order on the main form to finalise the Stock Take and resume warehouse operations.
