Calibration

ISO 7.1.5 — how to register monitoring & measuring equipment, record calibration events (date, result, certificate), understand the four statuses (OK, Due soon, Overdue, Uncalibrated), and manage the calibration register in Brytebuild.

Section 01

What is Calibration?

The Calibration register in Brytebuild is the ISO 7.1.5 compliant log of all monitoring and measuring equipment (gauges, calipers, torque tools, CMMs, etc.) used in your quality processes. It tracks when each instrument was last calibrated, when it is next due, and whether it is currently fit for use.

  • Every piece of measuring equipment is registered with a unique asset code (e.g. EQ-2026-0001)
  • Calibration events are logged against the equipment — each entry recomputes the status and next-due date
  • Equipment with a Pass result and a future due date shows as OK
  • Equipment is flagged Due soon or Overdue when its next-due date is approaching or has passed
  • A calibration interval (in days) can be set so the system automatically computes the next-due date when no explicit date is provided
Two-step process

Adding equipment creates the instrument record only. Actual calibration events (date, result, certificate) are recorded separately from the equipment detail page — the same pattern as Document Control.

The equipment list

Navigate to Quality → Calibration to view the full equipment register. Each row shows the asset code, equipment name, location, last calibrated date, next due date, current calibration status and a View action.

NumberThe unique asset code — e.g. EQ-2026-0001 (auto-assigned) or a custom code like CMM-01. Immutable once saved.
EquipmentThe instrument name — e.g. Vernier Caliper — 150mm.
LocationWhere the instrument is physically stored — e.g. Quality Lab, Assembly Bay.
Last CalibratedThe date of the most recent calibration entry. Blank if no calibration has ever been recorded.
Next DueThe next calibration due date. Highlighted in amber (due soon) or red (overdue).
StatusOK — calibrated and within date. Due soon — approaching due date. Overdue — past due date. Uncalibrated — no calibration ever recorded. See Section 06.

Section 03

Adding equipment

Click + Add equipment (top-right of the Calibration page) to open the form inline above the list. This creates the instrument record — calibration entries are added from the detail page after saving.

The asset code is assigned automatically (EQ-...) if left blank. Set a calibration interval so the system can compute the next-due date automatically when a calibration record has no explicit due date.

Edit uses the same form

Clicking Edit Equipment from the detail footer opens the same form with all current values pre-filled and editable. The asset code becomes read-only once saved.

The equipment record

Click View on any row to open the full equipment record. It has two sections: Equipment Details and Calibration History (which also contains the Record Calibration form).

Recording a calibration

From the equipment detail page, click + Record calibration at the bottom of the Calibration History section. Fill in the fields and click Save calibration. Each entry immediately recomputes the equipment status and next-due date.

Field Required What to enter
DateRequiredThe date the calibration was performed. Defaults to today. Format: dd/mm/yyyy.
Next DueOptionalThe date the next calibration is due. If left blank, the system calculates it by adding the calibration interval (days) to the calibration date. Set explicitly to override the interval.
ResultOptionalThe outcome — Pass or Fail. A Pass result with a future next-due date sets the equipment status to OK. A Fail sets it to Overdue regardless of dates.
Performed ByOptionalThe person who carried out the calibration — e.g. Syed Naqeeb ul Haq. Free text or a staff member lookup.
CertificateOptionalUpload the calibration certificate file (PDF). Linked from the history table. Recommended for external lab calibrations.
Status is computed on save

You never set the status manually. Every time you save a calibration entry, the server recomputes both the equipment status and next-due date from all the entries for that instrument. The most recent entry with a Pass result and a future next-due date determines the OK status.

Section 06

Calibration status guide

Equipment status is computed automatically from the calibration history. No manual setting is possible:

Uncalibrated

No calibration entry has ever been recorded for this instrument. Do not use for measurements until at least one Pass entry is recorded.

OK

The most recent calibration entry has a Pass result and the next-due date is in the future. The instrument is fit for use.

Due soon

The next-due date is approaching (within the system's warning window — typically 30 days). Plan and schedule the next calibration now.

Overdue

The next-due date has passed or the most recent result was Fail. Remove from use immediately and arrange recalibration before using in inspections or production.

Overdue equipment must not be used

ISO 7.1.5 requires that out-of-calibration instruments are not used for measurements. Inspection results recorded using Overdue equipment may not be valid for compliance purposes. If an Overdue instrument was used in an inspection, raise an NCR to document the deviation.

Section 07

Editing and deleting equipment

From the equipment detail footer, click Edit Equipment to open the edit form — identical to the Add equipment form with all current values pre-filled. The asset code field is read-only. Click Save changes to apply.

Footer button What it does
Go BackReturns to the equipment list without any changes.
DeletePermanently removes the equipment record and all its calibration history. Use with caution — this cannot be undone and will remove the audit trail.
Edit EquipmentOpens the edit form (same as Add equipment) to update the name, type, location or interval. The asset code is read-only once saved.

What's next
