What is the Capacity page?

1 minute

The Capacity page is a read-only analysis view. It shows a bar chart of weekly load against available hours for a selected Work Centre, along with a detailed week-by-week breakdown table. It does not let you reschedule — use the Capacity Planner to move work around.

  • Select any Work Centre from the dropdown — the example shows CNC2 — 8.00h/day
  • Set a date range — currently 03/08/2026 → 28/09/2026 (8 weeks, the active quick-select)
  • The bar chart shows one bar per week — light blue for available capacity, navy overlay for booked hours
  • Click any week bar to drill into which works orders are consuming capacity that week
  • The All Weeks table shows booked, available, remaining and utilisation for every week in the range
  • The 28 Sept week shows only 8h available because it is a partial week — only 1 working day (28 Sept) falls inside the date range end, giving 1 day × 8h = 8h
Capacity vs Capacity Planner

The Capacity page is for analysis — it shows you what is happening. The Capacity Planner is for action — it lets you drag and reschedule works orders to rebalance the load. Use Capacity to spot problems, then use the Capacity Planner to fix them.

Filters

The filters panel at the top of the page controls which Work Centre and date range is analysed. All other elements — stat cards, chart and table — update automatically when filters change.

Work CentreSelects which Work Centre to analyse. The dropdown shows all active Work Centres with their daily capacity — e.g. CNC2 — 8.00h/day. Switching updates the chart, stat cards and table immediately.
From / ToThe date range for analysis. The chart shows one bar per calendar week within this range. Currently set to 03/08/2026 → 28/09/2026 — an 8-week window covering 3 Aug to 28 Sept 2026.
4 wks / 8 wks / 13 wksQuick-select buttons that set the To date automatically from today. 8 wks is currently active (highlighted blue). 4 wks ≈ 1 month; 13 wks ≈ 1 quarter.

Stat cards

Four headline numbers summarise the entire selected date range for the chosen Work Centre — in this case CNC2 from 03 Aug to 28 Sept 2026.

Stat Value What it means
Total Booked0.0hTotal hours of works orders currently scheduled against CNC2 across the full date range. Zero means no works orders are routing through CNC2 in this period.
Total Available328.0hTotal productive hours available across all weeks: 8 full weeks × 5 days × 8h = 320h, plus the partial 28 Sept week (8h) = 328h. Directly derived from CNC2's 8h/day capacity setting.
Avg Utilisation0.0%Average weekly utilisation — Total Booked ÷ Total Available × 100. Green when under 100%; turns amber near capacity and red when over-capacity. Currently 0% because nothing is booked.
Over-Capacity Weeks0The number of weeks where booked hours exceed available hours. Green = no issues. Turns red when over-capacity weeks exist — use the Capacity Planner to resolve.
Where does 328h come from?

CNC2 is configured at 8h/day. The range 03 Aug → 28 Sept 2026 spans 9 calendar weeks but the last week (28 Sept → 04 Oct) only has 1 working day inside the range end date of 28 Sept — so it contributes 8h rather than 40h. Total: 8 full weeks × 40h + 1 partial week × 8h = 328h.

Section 04

Weekly load chart

1 minute

The bar chart shows one column per week across the date range. The height of each bar represents total available hours. A navy overlay fills from the bottom to show how much of that capacity is booked. A red bar indicates an over-capacity week where booked hours exceed available hours.

WEEKLY LOAD — CNC2
Booked

Over capacity
Chart element What it shows
Light blue bar (Available)Total available hours for that week based on the Work Centre's capacity × working days. CNC2 at 8h/day over 5 days = 40h per full week.
Navy overlay (Booked)Hours of works orders currently scheduled in that week. Fills from the bottom of the bar upward. Currently 0 for all weeks — no works orders are routing through CNC2.
Red bar (Over capacity)Appears when booked hours exceed available — the bar extends above the available line in red. None present in this example.
Shorter last bar (28 Sept)The 28 Sept week bar is shorter because it is a partial week — only 1 day (28 Sept) falls inside the range end date. 1 day × 8h = 8h available rather than 40h.
Click a barClicking any week bar drills into that week and shows which specific works orders are consuming this Work Centre's capacity in that period.

All Weeks table

Below the chart, the All Weeks table lists every calendar week in the date range with exact numbers. The same data drives both the table and the chart. Click any row to drill into the works orders for that week.

Column What it shows
WeekThe Monday start date of the calendar week — e.g. 3 Aug. The sub-line shows the full ISO date range: 2026-08-03 → 2026-08-09.
Booked (h)Hours of works orders scheduled against CNC2 in this week. 0 for all weeks in this example — no works orders are currently routing through CNC2.
Available (h)Productive hours available based on CNC2's capacity × working days. Full weeks = 40h (5 days × 8h). The 28 Sept partial week = 8h (1 day × 8h).
Remaining (h)Available minus Booked — shown in green with a + prefix when capacity is free (+40.0, +8.0). Turns red with a negative value when over-capacity.
UtilisationBooked ÷ Available as a percentage — displayed as a colour-coded badge. 0% (green) = nothing booked. Turns amber approaching 100% and red when over 100%.
WO CountThe number of distinct works orders contributing to booked hours in that week. 0 here because CNC2 has no scheduled works orders in this period.

Reading the data

1 minute

Use the following guide to interpret what the Capacity page is telling you about CNC2 and any other Work Centre:

Signal What it means What to do
Utilisation 0% / all bars light blueNo works orders are scheduled through this Work Centre in the selected period — as seen for CNC2 (03 Aug → 28 Sept 2026).Check whether MRP has generated Make recommendations that have not yet been converted to works orders, or whether BOMs have CNC2 assigned to any route steps.
Partial week bar (28 Sept — 8h)The date range end clips the last calendar week. CNC2's 8h/day × 1 day = 8h available rather than the usual 40h for a full week.Normal and expected — no action needed. Extend the To date to include the full week if you want the complete picture.
Utilisation amber (70–99%)This Work Centre is running close to capacity. One additional works order could push it over.Review the Capacity Planner to move lower-priority works orders to earlier or later weeks, or to an alternative Work Centre.
Over-Capacity Weeks > 0 / red bar on chartBooked hours exceed available hours for at least one week — the schedule is physically impossible as currently planned.Use the Capacity Planner to reschedule. Click the red week bar to see which works orders are causing the overload.
Check all Work Centres

The filters only show one Work Centre at a time. Switch between CNC2 and Mil 1 (and any other Work Centres you add) to get the full picture of your workshop's capacity position. A week may look fine on CNC2 but be over-capacity on Mil 1 simultaneously.
