You are probably in scope, even from the UK
The obligation follows the product, not the company. If you place goods on the EU market it applies to you, whether you are in Sheffield or Stuttgart. Brexit did not opt British manufacturers out of it.
There is no GB mandate at the time of writing, so for most UK workshops this is an export question rather than a domestic one. That does make it easy to ignore, right up until a customer asks for something you cannot produce.

What Brytebuild gives you today
A public passport per unit
Every serialised unit gets its own page. No account, no password, no portal. Scan it in a warehouse in Rotterdam and it opens.
GS1 Digital Link QR
The QR encodes a resolvable web address rather than a dead code, so the same label works for a person and a scanner.
Machine-readable JSON-LD
Ask the same address for structured data instead of a web page and you get JSON-LD back. That is content negotiation, and it is how a customer system reads your passport without a human.
GTIN or your own identifier
Use a GTIN if you have one. If you do not, Brytebuild issues an identifier, so you are not blocked on joining a barcode scheme first.
Sustainability data you control
Materials, recycled content, repair and end-of-life information are edited against the product and flow straight to the passport.
Fed by the system of record
The passport reads the lot, the batch and the build history Brytebuild already holds. There is no second dataset to keep in step.
What it does not do yet
Six horizontal standards for passports were published in 2026 and we have not implemented all of them. Here is the honest list, because you will find out eventually and it is better you hear it now.
- Passport versioning (EN 18221). Editing sustainability data rewrites the passport rather than publishing a new revision alongside the old one.
- Cryptographic signing of the passport (EN 18246).
- Automatic registration into the EU DPP Registry (EN 18222).
- Tiered access control, so different audiences see different fields (EN 18239).
- Economic operator LEI recorded on the passport.
Brytebuild does not make your product compliant, and neither does any other system. Compliance attaches to a product placed on the EU market by an economic operator. Software can hold the data and publish the passport. Signing it off is yours.
How it works
Serialise the unit
Brytebuild already tracks serial units through the build. The passport hangs off that identity, so there is nothing extra to maintain.
Fill in the product data
Materials, recycled content, repair guidance and end-of-life instructions, edited once against the product.
Print the QR
It resolves to the live passport. Update the data and the same code shows the current information.
Frequently asked
No, and no software can. Compliance attaches to a product placed on the EU market by an economic operator, not to the system holding the data, in the same way an accounting package cannot be tax compliant on your behalf. What Brytebuild does is hold the data and publish a passport in the format the standards describe, so the work is yours to finish rather than yours to start.
Not at the time of writing. There is no GB requirement. It matters to UK manufacturers because the obligation follows the product placed on the EU market, not the address of your head office. If you export to the EU, you are in scope.

Two reasons people start early. Buyers ask for passport-ready data before the legal date, particularly on public contracts. And the hard part is never the QR code, it is having clean material and batch data to put behind it. That takes longer to fix than the publishing does.
