How a job actually runs
Everything in food production hangs off batch identity and dates. This is where both are captured, and what they make possible later.
Raw materials in
The supplier lot and expiry are captured at goods-in, before the pallet is put away. Shelf life is recorded against that specific delivery rather than against the product in general, which is the difference between being able to run FEFO and only being able to describe it.
The batch is planned
A works order is raised against the recipe, and MRP nets what the run needs against what you hold and what is already on order.
Picking by date, not by shelf position
The earliest-expiring lot is suggested first, so short-dated stock moves while it still has value instead of being found at the back of the chiller a week late.
Make and check
Inspections run against a versioned plan at the stage they belong to. Anything that fails goes to quarantine rather than onward, and the hold is a record rather than a note on a pallet.
Pack, label, despatch
The finished batch carries its own identity, and the despatch record links it to the customer who received it.
When a supplier calls
One query returns every finished batch containing their material and every customer who took it. That is the moment the whole system either pays for itself or does not.
